X (Twitter) Character Limit: How to Count Before You Post

What is the usual limit?
For most accounts, a standard X post is limited to 280 characters. Platform rules and paid tiers can change over time, so always treat any third-party table as a practical check—not a substitute for the composer in the X app.
Characters vs words
Social limits are almost always about characters, not words. Spaces and punctuation count. Links and special characters may be counted differently inside X itself (for example shortened URLs). A local counter shows the raw length of the text you pasted; use it to stay safely under the cap, then do a final check in the platform.

- Write the thought in a notes app or document.
